Overview
Thymosin Alpha-1 (Tα1) is a 28 amino acid peptide derived from prothymosin alpha, originally isolated from thymus tissue. It is a potent immune modulator marketed as Zadaxin and approved in over 35 countries for chronic hepatitis B and C, certain cancers, and as an adjuvant for influenza vaccination.
Mechanism of Action
Thymosin Alpha-1 enhances both innate and adaptive immunity by activating dendritic cells, promoting T-helper cell (Th1) differentiation, and upregulating cytokines including IL-2, IL-12, and IFN-γ. It also activates toll-like receptor (TLR) signaling, improving viral and bacterial immune surveillance.
