Overview
MK-677 (Ibutamoren) is an orally active, non-peptide small molecule (spiropiperidine class) that acts as a potent ghrelin receptor agonist and GH secretagogue. It is not a peptideβit is a synthetic small molecule. MK-677 is commonly sold alongside peptides by research vendors due to its similar GH-stimulating applications and significant search interest.
Mechanism of Action
MK-677 binds to and activates the ghrelin receptor (GHSR-1a), stimulating sustained pulsatile GH and IGF-1 release without significantly elevating cortisol. As an orally bioavailable molecule with a half-life of ~24 hours, it provides prolonged GH elevation from once-daily oral dosing.
Common Research Uses
- GH and IGF-1 elevation research
- Muscle anabolism studies
- Anti-aging and body composition research
- Bone density research
- Sleep quality studies
